How old do you have to be to sail?

We require pontoon captains to be at least 25 years old, and 30 for the houseboat. This policy is designed to ensure that only qualified and responsible persons are authorized to sail. Our teams will evaluate each application to determine the suitability of each individual.
Do I need a license to rent a motorboat?

To rent a motorboat without a recreational driver’s license, a safety checklist must be completed with the rental company representative. Onboard safety training will be carried out to demonstrate competence, and a temporary permit will be provided.
Although a Pleasure Craft Operator Card is not legally required, it is recommended. A valid driver’s license or passport is required.
For houseboats, a license is required. Online training lasts just 3 hours, costs $59, and the license is valid for life.
How do we book our dates?
Is a security deposit required?

For hourly rentals (pontoon, electric boat, etc.), a $1500 security deposit will be deducted from your credit card before departure. For the houseboat, the deposit is $2,500.
This amount can be used to cover unpaid charges, late returns, lost or damaged items, extra cleaning and damage resulting from negligent use or activity on board.

What is the cancellation policy?

Pontoons, electric boats, bowriders, etc. Cancellation without penalty and possibility of postponing the reservation until the end of the following season (2 years). For the Bateau Maison: The reservation deposit is non-refundable and there is no compensation in the event of bad weather.
How many people are allowed on board?

Occupancy may not exceed the maximum number permitted, ranging from 4 to 10 people, depending on the boat. Please check with your Sunset Dreams Vacances representative. Children and babies are considered occupants. The stay can be cancelled immediately if these rules are not respected (no refund).

What time can we arrive?

For hourly rentals (pontoon, electric boat, bowrider, etc.), we recommend arriving 30 minutes before departure. For groups of 6 or more without a permit, please arrive 45 minutes in advance For Bateau Maison, most stays are based on overnight stays, with departure at 3 pm and return at 11 am. Early check-ins and late check-outs are possible depending on previous and subsequent bookings, as are delays in preparing the boat. We generally recommend that customers arrive one hour before departure, although this may vary depending on their experience.

What should we bring?

For our hourly boats (Pontoon, Electric Boat, Bowrider, etc.) we provide an ice bag, cooler, small portable toilet, gas, Gps, adult life jackets and suggestions of places to visit. Le Bateau Maison is equipped with everything you need, whether for a 2-night or 2-week stay. Upon reservation, we’ll provide you with a full list of on-board amenities, as well as suggestions on what you might like to bring along.
Where can we stay the night?

This only applies to the Houseboat: before nightfall, you must be moored at a quay, lock anchorage, private marina or authorized shoreline beach. We’ll provide you with suggestions for places to spend the night at anchor, based on the length of your stay, weather conditions and your sailing experience.
When should I book?
Is alcohol allowed on board?

Quebec: In Quebec, there are fines and penalties for driving a boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs. These are the same as those applicable to driving a motor vehicle under the influence.

Quebec boaters are allowed to carry open alcohol on boats while underway.

In addition, the boat operator may consume alcohol if his or her alcohol content does not exceed the legal limit of 80 mg or 0.08% BAC.

Ontario: Ontario boaters convicted of operating a boat under the influence can have their driver’s license suspended for at least a year.

In addition, Ontario’s ignition interlock program applies to people convicted of drinking and driving.

In Ontario, if your boat is equipped with permanent toilet, cooking and sleeping facilities, boat passengers can legally consume alcohol. However, the boat must be anchored or moored.
Where can I park?

Parking is available on the street as well as in front of 410 Victoria Street, where our commercial building is located. For guests staying on the houseboat, a reserved on-site parking space is available (free of charge) exclusively for Vacances Sunset Dreams customers.
